In addition to work on the artificial woman as a pinup, I have published a long article on the patriotic uses of the pinup in World War 2. This work flows from my interest in visual culture and cultural studies, but was also inspired by my focus on the representation of technology in popular culture. What is the relationship for example between the visual genre of the pinup and the military technologies and machinery that it both embodies and enlivens? Why are the pinup girls part of the airplane?
